ACCIONA Microenergia, present in the Spanish Cooperation’s representative experiences of access to energy

Madrid (Spain).- The document “AECID’s commitment to energy access in the context of combating climate change”, which has been recently published in the Spanish Cooperation’s Experiences series, shows several initiatives supported by the Spanish Agency for Cooperation since 2011, including four projects driven or participated by the ACCIONA Microenergia Foundation.

The Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation-AECID has published the guide “AECID’s commitment to energy access in the context of combating climate change”, with the aim of highlight its recent contribution to the Sustainable Energy for All initiative (SE4All), launched by the United Nations in 2011. The SE4All objectives matches up the targets included in the Agenda 2030’s Sustainable Development Goal nº7, to which AECID contributes through a set of instruments to support multi-lateral programmes, to NGO’s, universities and enterprises projects, as well as other resources.

Among the projects highlighted in the calls for innovation actions are the “Rural Electrification with Supply and Service Centres” project, which started the first Centros Luz en Casa in Cajamarca (Peru), or the “Development of micro-franchises for access to clean energy in rural areas (Bolivia)” project. The guide also focuses on two public-private partnerships for development in which ACCIONA Microenergia is a partner: Luz en Casa Oaxaca (Mexico) and Alianza Shire (Ethiopia).

The ACCIONA Microenergia Foundation by driving and participating in these electrification activities, which are executed together with partners coming from the Academy, NGO or other enterprises, and have the support of country’s authorities, international organizations and the Spanish Agency for Cooperation, impacts positively on the three dimensions of the development –economic, social and environmental-, favouring thus the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s), especially the SDG7, Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all, and the SDG17, Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development.
